Major treat for Kandy’s piano music lovers
The Kandy Music Society has secured the distinguished Japanese pianist Masahiko Shinohara who will perform a recital at the Engineering Faculty Theatre, University of Peradeniya on Sunday January 31 at 6.30 pm. Admission by Program will be available from Mrs. Bridget Halpé and at the entrance.The program will be a rich and exciting one including 6 Etudes op.25 by Chopin and his Sonata No.3, Le Tombeau de Couperin by Ravel and the Menuet and Clair de Lune from Suite Bergamasque by Debussy. Masa has given recitals in Germany, the USA, Hungary and Nepal and performs regularly with orchestras in his home country, Japan. A versatile musician, he has accompanied actors and dancers and also played music for films. He started taking piano lessons at ten. He attended Master Classes when young with Bruno Leonardo Gelber and Erick Heidsieck and graduated from the Tokyo University of Music and Fine Arts in 1989 and also obtained a Master’s Degree in 1993 winning First Prize. In 1989-1990 he studied at the École Normal de Musique in Paris with Ramzi Yassa and from 1995-97 in the USA with Dimitry Rachmanov and Marc Mclay.
