Information and Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA ) is to strengthen the national dairy industry by applying Information and Communication Technology(ICT) through its e-Society program. Under the direction of ICTA , Dambadeniya Development Foundation, one of the pioneers in rural livelihood development has implemented a pilot project centered at the Dambadeniya , Narammala and Alawwa veterinary divisions in the Kureunegala district. A Senior Official of the ICTA said certain valuable information pertaining to artificial insemination, milk price fluctuation, dairy health and related services could be obtained through the Short Messege Service(SMS) using mobile phones. In addition to SMS other facilities including use of the Web and the touch- screen to make people aware of the prospects of the dairy industry will be introduced to the dairy farmers through this project.
