Maligawa website attracts 62,000
The historic Sri Dalada Maligawa shrine Kandy opened its website www.sridaladamaligawa.lk yesterday at 2.30 p.m. and 62,000 people round the world and Sri Lanka called on the website by 6.30 p.m., shrine’s Director Media Krishantha Sanjeewa Hiswella told the Daily News. The website was opened to give a factual view of Buddhism and the Sri Dalada Maligawa and promote Buddhist tourists from other countries to visit the shrines in Sri Lanka on the directions of the Most Ven Maha Nayaka Theras of the Asgiriya and Malwatte Chapters to Diyawadana Nilame Pradeep Nilanga Dela, he said. Earlier, foreign tourists were charged Rs1,000 to enter Dalada Maligawa and they were issued with receipts for their payment. From now, they will be given a mini video that contains the facts and pictures of the shrine, city of Kandy and elephants taking part in the procession, he said.
