40 ex-army men and JVP MP questioned in Vavuniya
JVP MP Vijitha Herath along with 40 ex-army men are currently being questioned in Vavuniya, Military spokesman Udaya Nanayakkara told Ada Derana. Nanayakkara added that the Vavuniya police and army are jointly questioning them. The group was traveling in a bus this morning when police had stopped them for questioning. Police claim that they are being questioned over suspected vote rigging plot.

1 Killed in grenade attack
At least one person was killed and 4 others injured after a grenade attack on the residence and election office of Minister Health Promotion and Disease Prevention, Jayaratne Herath a short while ago. Police Spokesperson SSP I.M Karunaratne told Daily Mirror that the grenade was thrown from a passing vehicle but no suspects have been identified as yet.

One killed in Puttalam poll violence
Tension gripped the Madarankuliya area this afternoon after a Government supporter was killed and three others injured in a bloody shooting ahead of a scheduled UPFA rally to be held in the area. According to police the incident took place as the victims were proceeding towards rally that was to be attended by President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

A tense situation has erupted in Polonnaruwa town following a clash between supporters of the UNP and UPFA. According to our correspondent in the area supporters from both parties were injured and some vehicle too had been damaged. Polonnaruwa hospital confirmed that two persons have been admitted for now.

VIDEO: Bus fired at in Tangalle, one killed
One person dead after gunmen had opened fire at a bus in Tangalle carrying people who had attended a UNP function. Three more were injured when the Gunmen who had come in a motorbike had opened fire at the bus at Ranna. Matara hospital sources claimed that 4 persons were admitted following the shooting and one woman (60) had succumbed to her injuries. The bus had been carrying supporters to a UNP function in Tissamaharama.
