NAM strongly condemns UN Chief
The NAM has very strongly condemned the announced intention of UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon to appoint a Panel of Experts to advise on accountability issues relating to Sri Lanka, said Disaster Management and Human Rights Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe. Speaking at a press conference at the Government Information Department yesterday, Samarasinghe said the Non Aligned Movement (NAM) has a membership of 124 countries. All NAM members are also members of the United Nations.

Over 182,000 IDPs already resettled
The Government has already resettled and released 182,946 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs). The number of IDPs at six sites in Vavuniya is 61,898 and the number of IDPs in two sites in Jaffna is 1,347. The number of IDPs including their guardians in hospitals is 1,604. The total number of IDPs who are living out of the welfare villages is 28,974.

More concessions for small, medium scale entrepreneurs
The UPFA Government to be elected at the forthcoming General Election will introduce several relief measures with tax concessions for Small and Medium scale entrepreneurs said, Public Administration and Home Affairs Minister Dr Sarath Amunugama. Minister Amunugama was speaking at a meeting of industrialists held at Digana in Kandy. Members of the Digana Investment Promotion Zone participated.

All round development by 2020 - Finance Secretary
The Finance Ministry yesterday said a number of achievements in the path of the country's economic development would inevitably be made by 2020, if the country is driven on the Mahinda Chintana policy framework. Finance Ministry Secretary Dr. P.B. Jayasundara said the Government will be able to increase the per capita income from US$ 2,000 to US$ 6,000 and the country would see tremendous development in all spheres by 2020.

SC directs Polls Chief : Allow IDPs to use IDs, provide transport
The Supreme Court directed Elections Commissioner Dayananda Dissanayake to allow IDPs use their identity cards and provide transport for them to go to polling booths as done in the last Presidential Election.

Wind power plants in Puttalam
The first two private sector operated wind power generation plants in Sri Lanka will be commissioned soon at Mampuri and Mullipuram in the Puttalam district, Sustainable Energy Authority sources said. The Mullipuram plant will produce 20 mw to the national grid with 25 turbines working while the Mampuri generator will add 20 more mw with eight turbines.

Anoma Fonseka files habeas corpus
Anoma Fonseka wife of former Chief of Defence Staff and former Army Commander, General Sarath Fonseka filed a writ of Habeas Corpus application before the Court of Appeal under Article 141 of the Constitution yesterday. Anoma Fonseka in her petition cited Army Commander Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, Sri Lanka Army Military Police Headquarters Provost Marshall Brigadier B.K.J.K. Wijayasiri and Navy Commender Vice Admiral T.S.G Samarasinghe as respondents for the case.

English as a life skill from village to town
A Special Ten Day Training Program is being organized by the Royal College Colombo on the initiative of Principal Upali Gunasekera, to train 35 English language teachers of the school in the delivery of Spoken English Skills to students. The 80 hour training course will be conducted by the EFLU Hyderabad trained Master Trainers of the Presidential Initiative on English as a Life Skill. All the Master Trainers of the Presidential Program come from Sinhala and Tamil speaking rural homes.
